The Education Award is especially designed to recognize outstanding achievement in schools (Kindergarten to Grade 12). The criteria is modeled on the quality criteria, but customized to include special issues and examples that are exclusive to schools. Professionals from the education sector were involved in design of this program. Categories of excellence include: school leadership, planning, student focus, teacher focus, partnerships, process management and overall school results. Several schools across Canada have won the Canada Awards for Excellence in the last few years, using the Quality Criteria for the public sector. Now Canadian schools will have special recognition in their own category. Since this category is new, there will be a need to broadcast the benefits of applying. An awareness campaign is also planned. Accordingly, this award requires a larger investment from the Presenting Sponsor to help offset these extra costs.

At the same time, the benefits are also great in that the sponsor will receive recognition on all material, including the Canadian Excellence in Education material that is a special program designed to assist schools in implementing this criteria. The extra funds received will pay for the distribution of material to every school board in Canada. Past winners include:
