Celebrating 22 years

The Canada Awards for Excellence are presented annually to private, public and not-for-profit sector organizations that have displayed outstanding performance in the areas of Quality and Healthy Workplace. Since 1984 the award has honoured over three hundred Canadian organizations for outstanding achievements. This coveted award is tangible evidence of an organization’s level of excellence.

To receive the Canada Awards for Excellence trophy organizations must have fully met the NQI Criteria with documented overall achievements and results.

Recognition of Achievement Award

The Recognition of Achievement Award is an honorary award apart from the Canada Awards for Excellence. Recipients of this award are organizations and/or individuals that have made a significant contribution to the advancement of quality of life of Canadians. Each recipient is selected by NQI with consultation from both the public and private sectors. A demonstrated commitment to excellence and innovation are the criteria for this prestigious award, which is not necessarily presented each year.

Forms of Recognition

  • The Canada Awards for Excellence Gold Category is awarded to organizations that have fully met the intent of the NQI Criteria, with documented overall achievement and results.
  • The Canada Awards for Excellence Silver and Bronze Categories are awarded to organizations that have completed some good work on meeting the intent of the NQI Criteria but need some more time to get desired documented results, and are usually one or two years away from the Gold recognition.
  • Order of Excellence

Presented annually in October, recipients of these distinguished awards attract attention in the media. Their paths to excellence light the way for other Canadian organizations to follow. The awards ceremony is a time for recipients to enjoy the spotlight and for their peers to recognize their achievements.

Become a Canada Awards for Excellence recipient - it’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your success and show the world that your hard work is paying dividends.

When an organization conducts a full assessment against the criteria, a score of over 500 points may indicate a winner at some level! NQI has introduced Gold, Silver and Bronze levels effective 2004.

NQI has designed a Progressive Excellence Program (NQI-PEP®) to assist organizations with an implementation framework along the way to excellence. NQI-PEP® can lead to the Canada Awards for Excellence. For instance, if your organization has achieved Level 3 in the NQI-PEP®, you may be eligible for Bronze or Silver CAE recognition, and Level 4, Gold.

It is not mandatory to be in the NQI-PEP® to apply for the CAE Award. Organizations that have completed an assessment based on the CAE Criteria can apply directly if they think they are ready, or have scored themselves over 500 points. NQI PEP recognition is available all year round. However, for organizations wishing to be recognized at the NQI summit, NQI PEP® Applications must follow these guidelines

So, take the plunge and turn the page to find out how to submit your application for one of Canada's most coveted awards -- the Canada Awards for Excellence.

The Benefits of Participation

There are many benefits of participating in the Canada Awards for Excellence. Some of them include:

  1. Conducting an organizational assessment helps solidify your organization’s strengths by documenting processes and results, and will confirm whether you are ready or not to apply for the CAE.
  2. Simply preparing the application helps improve communication and boosts morale in the organization, and helps identify both strengths and opportunities for improvement.
  3. If successful, CAE Recipients gain national recognition of the organization’s level of excellence.
  4. Media attention, including press, television and Internet coverage can be extensive and invaluable, and provide recognition across Canada and abroad and an opportunity to differentiate your organization in the marketplace.
  5. You get the chance to become an identifiable leader in your field, and may be invited to speak about your journey to excellence right across Canada.
