Why I should enroll in the NQI Leadership Excellence Program. What’s in it for me?

  • Upon completion of the Leadership Excellence Program®, you will have a validated understanding of excellence frameworks and principles, advanced operational tools, organizational assessment, leadership competencies, and tactical and strategic Excellence concepts and tools.
  • You will be specializing in an area that helps Canada’s overall competitiveness.
  • You will learn skills that will help your organization achieve real results.
  • You will gain transferable soft skills and hard skills that employers are looking for. arrow

How many in-class courses do I need to take to get my NQI CEP® and NQI CEL® designations?

NQI CEP®

  • 11 courses.
  • Equivalent to 16 days in-class.

NQI CEL®

  • 2 courses selected from the NQI CEL® elective list arrow

Apart from my in-class courses, what will I be responsible for as part of my certification?

NQI CEP®

  • Completion of 13 online courses.
  • Quest for Quality Module 2 Assignment (Level 2).
  • Participation in 2 Live or Pre-recorded Webinars
  • NQI CEP® Reflective Assignment (to be submitted after the completion of Levels 1, 2, & 3 course work).

NQI CEL®

  • Tactical Improvement Project (Level 4 – with Leadership Excellence Coach).
  • Strategic Improvement Project (Level 5 – with Leadership Excellence Coach). arrow

What is included in my enrollment fee?

  • All 13 required online courses.
  • One year of certification. arrow

Is there a time limit for program completion?

  • No. You may complete the online and in-class courses at your leisure.
  • All online courses have a 2 year access period that can be extended upon request.
  • We strongly recommend you make use of the Course Log that is provided with your enrollment package to keep track of the courses you have completed. You may also download this by clicking here. arrow

I have taken similar courses from other providers or have completed NQI courses previously. Will you give me an equivalency or exemption towards the NQI LEP® curriculum?

  • On the recommendation of the NQI LEP® Committee, candidates may be granted equivalencies or exemption, to a maximum of five (5) courses (does not apply to previously completed NQI course).
  • Equivalencies/exemptions may be granted for courses taken within the last five (5) years with a grade of 73% or high (if applicable).
  • If you have taken any of the NQI courses that appear in the NQI LEP® curriculum, you will not need to re-take them. Simply include a copy of your previous certificates with your Equivalency/Exemption Form. Click here to download. arrow

How much will my NQI CEP®/CEL® cost?

  • Estimated program fee totals will vary depending on your NQI Membership level and whether you take the courses in-house. The following table has the estimated costs based on public session attendance.

How much do I save if my organization is a member or partner of NQI?

When/how do I recertify my designations?

  • After the first year from the completion date of NQI CEP®, candidates must recertify their NQI CEP® and NQI CEL® designation annually.
  • To recertify, candidates must submit the following:
    • A completed Professional Development Log outlining fifteen (15) hours of professional development training and/or activities per year, and
    • Recertification fees,
  • Candidates may submit their Professional Development Logs by e-mail to [email protected], or by mail.
  • Fees:
    • NQI CEP® - $250 per year or $650 for three years.
    • NQI CEP® and NQI CEL® - $250 per year or $650 for three years.

*Please note that the first year of certification is included as part of the Leadership Excellence Program® enrollment package fees. arrow

Do I need to be enrolled in the Leadership Excellence Program® to take the listed courses?

  • All NQI courses are stand-alone public courses, however you must be enrolled in the NQI LEP® to receive NQI certification.
  • The online courses marked with three asterisks in the curriculum (ex. Business Fundamentals***) are only available to NQI LEP® participants. arrow

What is the target market of NQI CEP®/CEL®? How does this compare with the NQI Improvement Champion?

Once I receive my NQI CEP® designation, do I have to continue with the NQI LEP® to Levels 4 and 5?

  • If you are content with one of the two available NQI LEP® designations you need not continue
  • You must continue if you wish to pursue the NQI CEL® designation
  • Most candidates choose to pursue both NQI CEP® and NQI CEL® designations

Do I need to complete the required in-class courses in the order they appear in the curriculum?

  • No. While some of the courses have recommended pre-requisites (typically the courses marked with “Introduction to”), you may take all other courses at your convenience, regardless of the level in which they appear.
  • See Course Requirements under each course to view the recommended pre-requisites.arrow

What is a Leadership Excellence Coach? How much time do I have with them?

  • The Leadership Excellence Coach helps candidates focus on the issues, solutions and alternatives that connect to the organization’s strategic objectives. The Excellence Coach advises the candidate in analyzing the current situation and the obstacles facing the project, then brainstorms possible alternate solutions, and develops the tactics to move forward.
  • For Level 4 of NQI CEL®, a Leadership Excellence Coach is assigned to each candidate and will be available for 1-day on-site coaching and an additional 8 hours distance coaching (online or by phone) over 6 months to assist the candidate with their Tactical Improvement Project.
  • For Level 5 of NQI CEL®, a Leadership Excellence Coach will be assigned to each candidate and will be available for 1-day on-site coaching and an additional 8 hours distance coaching (online or by phone) over 6 months to assist the candidate with their Strategic Improvement Project.   arrow
